Hi all,

I am a 5th year PhD student in Canada. I have been working as a Research Technologist for a Biotech company for the past 25 months on an off-campus work permit (20 hr/week). Yesterday I read about the eligibility criteria for Temporary Foreign Worker CEC stream which requires 1 year of full-time or equivalent part-time work exp. Since I have the work exp but on an off-campus work permit, I thought I am not eligible to apply. However, I called CIC this morning and they told me as far as work exp is in a related field and falls under mentioned NOC category I can apply. I am very excited to hear this. Just want to know of your opinions on this :) I may call them again to confirm, sometimes CIC response vary from agent to agent!!

Thanks much

CEC Guide clearly state that work experience gain with off-campus work permit and/or during full-time study are not eligible.

So for me, you are not eligible (I'm not being rude but just interpreting the rule)

Agreed. You're not eligible.

Unfortunately the CIC call centre gives out incorrect information relatively frequently.

umm...sad, but thanks!

BTW, where can I find the recent guidelines for CEC with the above statement?

Have you looked into the FSW program, PhD stream? Eligibility kicks in after completing 2 years...
