Hello Guys,

There is one thing which is been troubling me to apply for my express entry. I started my employment with a company which hired me full time ( 40 hrs/ week) and then moved me to (24 hrs/ week) due to insufficient funds for just a month and half and again hired me full time. But if i calculate my hours as an average, overall i worked 32 hrs/week and reached the desired number of hours which is more than 1560 hrs /year.

can anyone please help me with this issue if i am good to proceed?

Thank you in advance.

Best Regards,
Karthik

How are you calculating an average between a period of a month and a half and longer?

I calculated the (number of days i worked x 8 hrs/day) in a year and divided it by the number of the weeks.

I do not know how many times this has been discussed in its entire length and breadth, the minimum Work Experience required to be eligible for the EE Program is -> 1-Year Continuous Employment with minimum of 30 hrs/week (This implies that even if you worked for 168 hrs/week but your employment was NOT 1-Year Continuous then am sorry to say but your Ineligible.)

CIC Link -> http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who.asp

Quoting from the CIC website as well :-

Your work experience must be:

  • in the same type of job as your primary NOC
  • within the last 10 years
  • paid work (volunteer work, unpaid internships don’t count)
  • at skill type 0, or skill levels A or B of the 2011 National Occupational Classification (NOC)
  • at least 1 year (1,560 hours total / 30 hours per week), continuous:
    • full-time at 1 job: 30 hours/week for 12 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
    • equal amount in part-time: 15 hours/week for 24 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
    • full-time at more than 1 job: 30 hours/week for 12 months at more than 1 job = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
You must show that you did the duties set out in the occupational description in the NOC. This includes most of the main duties listed.

If you can’t show that your work experience meets the description in the NOC, you aren’t eligible under this program.

Hi Razor,

Thank you for your response. I am applying under the Canadian Experience Class Where we have a requirement where we could work equal amounts in part time as well ( that's where my confusion lies) .

Please state the exact periods that you've worked for such company. Remember that you must work for a year (assuming full-time) or the equivalent in part time.

One week of full-time work = 30 hrs per week. You cannot count more than 30 hours per week for the required 1560 hrs.

Dear All/Raz0r,

I went through couple of forums yesterday and now i understand what you were trying to explain ( My bad). I would like to confirm with all the seniors that I have 1 year of legal Canadian experience as per the below jobs. Is my below understanding correct?

Job1 : Company A
Status: Part time + Full time
Duration : 15 Aug 2016 to 07 July 2017
Total weeks: 31 Full Time weeks (30 hrs/week) + 16 Part time weeks ( 24 hrs/week)
Total hours : (31*30=930 hrs) + (16*24 = 384 hrs)

Job2: Company B
Status : Full time
Duration : 17 July 2017 to present ( assuming 30th September 2017)
Total weeks : 11 Full time weeks
Hours/week : 37.5 hrs
Total hours : 11 * 30 = 330 hrs

Please let me know if my calculation is right

a) Full time hours = 930 + 330 = 1260 hrs ~ 42 weeks

b) Part time hours = 384 hrs
1) 24 hrs/ 30 hrs = 0.8 factor ; So 0.8* 16 part time weeks = 12.8 Full time weeks

Case : Full time weeks at Job A and B = 42 + Equivalent full time weeks ( working part time) = 12.8 weeks = Total 54.8 Full time weeks and 1644 hours . And the duration of working from Aug 15 2016 to Sep 30 2016 completes 1 year round.

Can you please let me know if my calculations are right and I'm eligible??

It not like that. Let just break it down into weekly period.

Week 1: 30+ hours => counted
Week 2: 30+ hours => counted
....
Week 52: 30+ hours => counted

If for some reason any of the "Week n" where n: 1..52 you do not have 30+ hours, you do not have 1 year continuous experience.

That is what people are trying to tell you. Hope that's clarified for you.

P/S: I know, emotionally, people want to believe what they want to believe. Let's not put your emotion and anxiety into it when reading the instructions. If you do not understand the question, there is no points for the following answer. (Just like Maths test)
