Dear All,

I have a question about the CEC full time job requirement.

I have got a PGWP and I have just received a job offer from a recruit agent that offering me to work for an international bank for the position of Administrator. So, I will work for the bank, and the recruit agent will pay the wage to me on hourly basis. However, when I signed the employment contract with the agency, I found that they hire me as a Temporary Worker, who works at least 40 hours a week. Except for the vacation pay, I am not eligible for any full time benefits from the bank.

I checked the information on the CIC website and understand that i can apply for the CEC with one year of full-time (or equivalent) skilled work experience in Canada. Can anyone please tell my Contract Based Temporary Job qualified the requirement of "Full-time (or equivalent) skilled work experience"? Do you think if I can apply the CEC with one year of fContract Based Temporary Job experience from the bank?

Thanks you!

That's weird. From my experience, you are hired by the recruiting company that will also issue your paychecks. You work for them, not for the company you actually provide your service to in the end. If that is the case, it should appear in Box 14 as regular income if you were not self-employed but on a full-time contract with said recruiting company.

I thought as long as the company provides you a T4 for filing taxes then you are good. Correct me if I am wrong.

Are your taxes deducted on your T4? Usually, you get T4A for self-employment, but I also saw the box 81 on T4 for self-employment. I don't know the difference.

Yes, LOTs of people get their Canadian experience this way. The only thing is, at the end of your assingment, you will need to get TWO letters of reference, one from your Employer (the agency) and one from your client (who actually witnessed you performing the work).

Contract based employment is definitely accepted. However, what the other comments are concerned about is that "self-employment" experience is NOT accepted. Contract work can mean either contract employment, or personal services contracts (self-employed "contractor") - the terms are confusing.

From what you described, you are talking about contract employment, which is OK. Just be sure that the agency will be taking statutory deductions (taxes, IE) from your pay to make sure.

(Some agencies or even employers ask that you "incorporate" and pay your own taxes, and a lot of people don't realize this means you are "self-employed")

Additionally confirm contract says job title and NOC code matches levels B, A or 0
