This is essentially what I ended up doing. Lets hope they see sense and approve it...but it's cutting it close right now. Work permit submitted on 11th August, LMO submitted on 24th.

Same here, maybe even slightly worse -- WP submitted on July 23 and LMO submitted on Sept 27. Did reaching out to Olivia Chow help you at all?

Olivia Chow was not really any use to me in this instance, firstly because her assistant mentioned I should really be speaking to whoever is the representative for my employers area, not mine. Also I have only just applied for residency, I have to join the queue, same as everyone else.

That sucks, but is understandable. Good luck to you IrishinCanada! If you don't mind, can you continue to post your progress here since we are on a similar track? I'll do the same for you as well.

So you've not heard anything from CIC as of yet? That would mean to me, that they have not started processing your paperwork, correct?

That's correct. You can actually check their application timelines here: www[dot]cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/temp[dot]asp

It's not up to the minute, but it tells you exactly the receipt date of the applications they are currently working on. This allows you to make an educated guess on when yours will be processed.

So ZT, have you had any update from the CIC yet? I see they are close to processing applications submitted at the same time as myself. Just curious....

Hi IrishCanada,

I haven't heard anything yet. Last I checked, the processing time for my application (Work Permit for same employer - paper application) is 93 days and they are currently processing application received on June 26, 2012. These stats are as at October 3. Did you sumit your application electronically? They seem to be moving more quickly on that.

Yes, I submitted electronically. Wishing I had submitted a paper version now though as I still haven't heard anything regarding my LMO.

So anxious.

I know it's hard to do, but stay positive!

In the meantime, I'd also start planning on perhaps taking an unpaid leave of absence from work if your employer is supportive of that.

Of course, that's what I'll have to do but being unemployed for a 6-8 month period is a long time to wait. But I will do what is neccessary.
Fingers crossed for both of us.

*EDIT: CIC are now processing online applications submitted on August 11th. The day that I submitted mine...with no LMO received as of yet, I can see this application getting denied. This is the 2nd time this has happened to me. ???

So good and bad news.

1) I recieved a refusal on my latest Work Permit application extension.
2) I recieved a positive LMO today, 3 days after CIC refused my work permit application.

What are my options now?

Can I get the work permit application re-opened?
Can I cross the border back into Canada?

Any ideas?

Has your previous work permit already expired? If it has not expired, simply re-apply for the work permit with the LMO (and you can continue working on implied status).

If it has already expired (but you are still within the 90-day "grace" period) you can apply for restoration along with the new work permit... (but cannot work until you get a response).

Hi Irishincanada.
the fastest way is to go cross the border and get working permit.
do you need a visa to visit US?

Hey all,

So although I am within the 90 day restoration period, I took a chance and went to the border at Rainbow Bridge, Niagara Falls after crossing into and out of the USA successfully. No issues whatsoever.

As I'm from a visa exempt country, the Canadian officer took my LMO, work contract, resume, passport, old work permits and approved a new work permit for just under one year. The process couldn't have been less painless and everyone was very professional in their service.

I guess I'm back in Canada for a while now again. :D
