Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Hi Everybody,

Unfortunately my CEC application is returned back to me due to the wrong NOC. I wrote NOC 4122 because I was not aware of the NOC changes in 2011.

I do research on HIV/AIDS, specifically on viral protein encoded by HIV on a postdoctoral fellowship work permit for more than 3 years.

Now I am trying to find my right NOC which seems to be 4011, but the problem is that this code's duties are mainly focused on teaching which is not what I do! I do research only!

  • As per HRSDC NOC 4011: University professors and lecturers perform some or all of the following duties:

Teach one or more university subjects to undergraduate and graduate students
Prepare and deliver lectures to students and conduct laboratory sessions or discussion groups
Prepare, administer and grade examinations, laboratory assignments and reports
Advise students on course and academic matters and career decisions
Direct research programs of graduate students and advise on research matters
Conduct research in field of specialization and publish findings in scholarly journals or books
May serve on faculty committees dealing with such matters as curriculum planning and degree requirements, and perform a variety of administrative duties
May represent their universities as speakers and guest lecturers
May provide professional consultative services to government, industry and private individuals.

I am not sure what to do and feel lost.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

New code for that old from 2006 is 4012: Post-secondary teaching and research assistants.

If just the number was the issue

I am a post doc too in Electrical Engineering. I went with the NOC code 2133 for Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Check for the post "Post doc with T4A dont worry". He got his PR.

If you cannot get "teaching" in your reference letter for NOC 4011, you most probably will be refused (there are several cases here on the forum). I would advise to check NOC for biochemist (NOC 2112 Chemists). Make sure your ref. letter has enough duties to match most of the duties listed for the NOC.

I put 6233 as my NOC but in 2011 it was changed to 6222.
Do you think I will be rejected because of that?

No, because the only change was a new number.

In the OP's case, it's not as simple as that. The old NOC code 4122 has been split into two new NOC codes - 4011 and 4012 - so the officer cannot just cross out the old code and put a new one in.

Post-docs are supposed to find the NOC that matches their duties, not use 4011. Probably 2121 -

Yes I think you're right. Based on what I've research, at least 5-6 job duties have to match on the job letter is that right?

I hope I got the right NOC, but I still I'm not 100% sure.

Thanks again.
