Hi, I have a CBSA appointment coming up to initiate PRRA, we fell in the c-12 ineligible category (as we visited years ago for one month) and I’m really nervous about what to expect. For anyone who has had this type of appointment recently, what was it like? What kinds of questions did they ask, how long did it take, and did they mostly explain the PRRA process or ask about your refugee story in detail?


I already have a lawyer, so I’m not looking for legal advice.. just personal experiences about the appointment itself.

If you visited your Canada and returned to your home country assume that will be that will be a factor that will have to be addressed in your PPRA.

I know, i visited for 1 month in 2021 with family and we were under no danger then. I lived in my home country until recently got almost killed (honor killing) and forced marriage, came to Canada last December and applied for asylum, so im just nervous about that.

PRRA applications have a low success rate. Weren't you aware you wouldn't be eligible under the new system?

I don’t know whether you’re deliberately trying to be discouraging (which u probably are lol) or whether you simply didn’t read what I actually asked. I was asking about what to expect at a CBSA appointment for PRRA, not for some generic comment about PRRA success rates.

I applied for asylum before this new rule existed, so no, I was not aware that a later change in the law would make me ineligible for an IRB hearing because of a short visit years earlier.

In the future please keep in mind If you don’t have experience with the actual topic/question or anything useful to add, there’s really no need to respond just to discourage someone.

No, I certainly don't want to discourage anyone. Sometimes people are misled by others, and unsuccessful outcomes are upsetting. If you made this decision knowing everything, then we can't say anything.

For me, the point is, if your lawyer or representative told you there's a possibility of it being deemed ineligible when you filed this application, then that's ok to me, and I wish you good luck.

The best person to prepare you is your lawyer. A PPRA process is extremely dependent on your grounds for applying and an evidence you can provide.

No worries, they will just reconfirm what you have filled in the form you are taking with you. All your bio data. And give you option to initiate PRRA.

The best person to prepare you is your lawyer. A PPRA process is extremely dependent on your grounds for applying and an evidence you can provide.

Reread your post and realized you have actually submitted your PPRA yet. As someone has already said it is going to be relatively short purely procedural appointment.
