I heard that there is a case officer assigned to every case that is appealed and that we are able to contact him or her regarding our appeal. I was also told that this case officer is there to help us. Is this true and if so, where would I find out who he/she is? Thanks.

Do you mean MP (member of parlement)?

No - OP is asking about the case officer CIC assigned to their application.
 
Yes, the case officer assigned to our case. I understood that there was one, but I have heard that we are able to contact them when looking for information about our case and was wondering if this is true.
 
There is a case officer assigned o every application bu they change as the stages progress. If you are in an appeal situation the letter you may have received would have the contact details of the officer. You are only able to contact them if they have provided this information. My best advice would be to send a case specific inquiry to the office that is processing your case.
