If you had a reason to claim asylum (persecution, war torn country etc.) why did you not claim asylum in your first entry?

People should realize that asylum is not a privilege but a right for people who need it.
If you are not claiming asylum the minute you get out of your country, you are not a real refugee at all.

I hate that people started to see asylum as a pr pathway.
I am not sure why you decided to come here looking to talk down to other people, I would not have even replied but your message rubbed me the wrong way because you are acting like an almighty being that knows everybody's circumstances.

My country's situation changed a lot recently, I was still a student and was eligible for a 3 year PGWP at the time I applied for refugee status. Now I don't want to dox myself, but if you are as smart as you think you are, maybe you could put 2 and 2 together and guess what country I came from based off the information posted in this thread. My case with the evidence provided would have won 10 times out of 10, I was just unlucky because of the timeline of everything that happened coinciding with Canada wanting to crack down on Asylum.

Why comment just to hate rather than be understanding? how about asking a question first? of what use is your comment besides being an attempt to minimize other people's struggle?

Well.. I received on my portal that my case is ineligible due to bill C-12.

To others in the same shoes as me, do you know what now? Do we get sent to the PRRA stream? Does anyone know the processing time for that?
Or how that process even works for someone whose country is on the ADR?
Has your claim be referred to IRB already?

If your country is on ADR list, then most likely you will not be offered PRRA as you are subject to unenforceable removal order. Unfortunately, this kind of situation is not solved by bill C12. I would work with lawyer who may suggest H and C.

H&C not a great option. Processing is many decades at the moment, doesn’t prevent removal and is one of the programs that is at high risk for major chances since it is no longer functional.

Applied: August 2025
Eligibility interview: October 2025
Stream of less complex cases: November 2025
Background check passed: January 2026

When did your PGWP expire and when did you apply for asylum? Many are applying when they run out of options to remain and not as soon as there is a major country condition change that may make getting asylum possible.

I understand that, but I never applied for a PGWP as the change in my country's condition happened while I was still a student.

I go more into detail about my case in my reply to broccoli13.
