Hey all,

I was planning on renting a car in NYC and driving into Toronto (making 1st entry). Does anyone know of car rental companies that allow this besides Hertz? I will probably have 4-5 large bags that I could fit into a rental car and would not need to a UHaul.

My husband and I have rented from Budget before, to drive from NYC to Ottawa, and back again. It was really easy.

Just confirm what their policy is about taking cars into Canada, and where the drop-off would be (since I'm presuming yours is a one-way trip). They should be able to answer your questions over the phone.

Thanks...yes, my intent was to drop off the car in Canada...I don't think Budget allows it as I've tried several locations in NY and none of them see to let me proceed with a reservation.

Anyone else have experience with other rental companies?

You could try a UHaul rental van - I looked in to a Uhaul pull along and it looks like I can bring it across the border and drop it there so they may have the same policy for their vans.

UHaul is definitely set up for one-way rentals. Even their Canadian equipment carries New Mexico license plates (as does all the U.S. equipment). The only thing is that it has to be a cube van type unit to do a one way rental. The smaller cargo vans are only allowed to be used in town.

You might try National for a one-way rental.
