Ok. So I've searched through millions of places trying to find information that I need on getting married to my Canadian boyfriend and I seriously cannot find reliable answers anywhere.
My soon to be husband and I are planning on "eloping" in Canada around December. I will have been in Canada for approx. 5 1/2 months by that time. We are going to start the sponsorship papers before we actually tie the knot and have them sent in hopefully shortly after we are married.
Problem is I have all of that part planned out but I have seriously no idea what to do or how to do it. I've read there is no marriage visa, it's just show up, have I.D's and get married. Is this true?
Second, since I will have almost been in Canada for 6 months, does getting married allow me to stay past the 6 months or do I have to go back home? (if I do have to return home, how long will it be before I can re-enter Canada?) I've read on the immigration site that you can apply for an extension but it doesn't say if that's just for visa's or if passports are included.
Once our papers have been sent in, how long is it usually before things are finalized that if I had to leave the country I could come back?
Thanks!
