I am an international student currently studying in one of BC's universities. I just noticed that my Canadian visa has expired on 30/03/2009 but my study permit is expiring on 12/05/2010. What should I do? Thank you.

If you do not plan to go out of North America you do not need to extend your temporary resident visa.

If you plan to go out of North America you need to apply for the extension of temporary resident visa at the nearest Canada Embassy/Consulate (in your case http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/seattle/index.aspx?lang=eng). The visa will be extended till the expiry date of your study permit (12/05/2010).

Call CIC and ask them what they want you to do. They may want you to apply for a new TRV.

Hi, just remember that visa is needed to enter/re-enter a country and study permit is required to maintain valid status. Thus, visa and study permit do not have to be co-terminus. I had been in your situation twice before and I've never had problems renewing/extending my study permit.

Accreddy is right, you do not have to renew your visa if you will not be leaving then re-entering Canada.

You are alright.
