Canadian sponsorhip by five canadians?

I am trying to immigrate to Canada and since I have some friends who maybe able to able I would like to know how the sponsorship by five canadians works, can I do it when I am Canada or just outside Canada? Ans also will a skilled worker application in process affect my application?
