Hi all,

Firstly, this forum is AMAZING! Seriously, it's helped me SO much!

My residency was approved March 2016, and I officially became a PR of Canada.

However, whilst waiting for PR I setup a business in the UK with my brother. I did all the online admin from Canada, and he did the ground work in the UK. Now I have a successful business. Herein lays the problem. Our business is growing and I now must spend over 6 months in England for the time-being.

I do not want to sacrifice my PR as I LOVE Canada!

My questions:

1. Will I lose my PR if I keep spending over 6 months a year working in the UK?
2. I married a beautiful Canadian woman, and I normally bring her to the UK every time I come to work. However, she stated that she cannot be out of Canada for more than 6 months per year, or she loses her medical. Is this true? I really do not want to travel without my wife, it would be very hard on our relationship.

Any advice would be GREAT!

Cheers,

Steve

1. You must live in Canada for 2 out of every five years to keep your PR status. Since your wife is a Canadian citizen, if she accompanies you while you are living outside of Canada, you can count this time towards the 2 years. There is no six months rule for PR.
2. Yes - there are residency rules for health care coverage. For Ontario, you must live in Canada for 153 days out of every 12 month period to keep your coverage.
