Hi All

We are applying for Canadian PR. My son is diagnosed with Mild Autism but is highly functional. My question is as follows;
1) Will there be any issue for him while applying for his PR
2) After getting PR and we all staying in Canada for certain years to become eligible for citizenship, will there be any issue for him in future to get Canadian citizenship?

Please advise on above accordingly we can plan

He will have to pass the medical without being disqualified for meeting the excessive needs threshold. No there will not be any problems getting citizenship because of autism. Depending on high functioning he is your family will need to plan on likely supplementing any potential therapy he may qualify for and there are very few services after 21 so families are left to care for their children. All depends on how independent he will be in the future. Expect wait long lists for services as well.

Thanks for the above info. Is Canada good for children with mild autism. I mean will the future of my child be safe and secure in Canada and would he be able to lead a good life. These questions worries me and is the only reason I am looking to change from my current country though I am happy here,

Hi. You should bring your child's condition well documented to his medical evaluation. I refer to medical, neurological, school, therapist evaluations. The more documents you carry, the better. This way, the autism condition can be immediately identified and additional visits to other specialists can be avoided. When the case is reviewed, it will be marked M5, which indicates that one of the members may cause excessive demand for social or health services. Here they send the file to the CMAU (The Centralized Medical Admissibility Unit) which will review the file and when identifying the autism condition they will apply the temporary policy announced in April 2018. Once that step is completed, the medical evaluation will be marked as passed and The application will be approved. We did that and thank God we already received our PR.
