Hello all,

Has anyone applied for a passport recently? Mine is for a name change. I applied in person on March 10, and it still says processing. While, it's still one day of the 15 day processing time, I'm getting anxious to book tickets as the prices just keep increasing for when I would like to travel.

Does anyone have a recent experience to share of how long it took to have passport in hand when applying in person?

It depends what service you applied for and whether pick-up or mail. For recent passport applications (last couple of years roughly, since the post-covid surge and delays were worked out) they've been pretty good.

But I personally have only used the in-person apply and in-person pick-up service instead of mail (several family members), and they've all been ready when it was promised. Can't speak for receiving passport by mail, nor for applications submitted by mail or through the non-passport offices of Service Canada. (Ah actually I did use the on-line renew for myself - which I think can't be used for name change - and it was very fast, and that I did receive by mail).

From the reports I've seen here, the vast majoirty who use this or the more rapid / urgent (extra $$$) services have received them on time.

While it may not tell you anything helpful now since you've already applied, repeat general advice: if it is time sensitive at all, apply in person at specialized passport office, and picking up in person avoids any mail issues.

Applying in person at passport office more or less guarantees that they 'accept' your passport application as complete. (Don't know if it's a formal guarantee but if anything missing, they won't accept)
