Hello -

I am a Canadian Citizen living abroad at the moment, here in Australia. My wife is Aussie and we are considering a future back in Canada. We understand what is involved in her pursuit of Permanent Residency and on to citizenship, and that our son will automatically be considered Canadian since I am born and raised Canadian. But my question is twofold:
1) what options are available to him for health-coverage especially in these first few years of his life (He was born a few weeks ago and we are considering relocation closer to Christmas at the earliest)? As he is a premie, he may need some extra attention even after being discharged from his current location at the local ICU.
2)Though my wife cannot attain regular health coverage until she has her PR, is there any options for her, especially if she were to get pregnant again while awaiting approval of a visa application we would be lodging asap after arriving?

In other words, in regards to both questions, would an option such a Blue Cross work at a monthly premium to be able to give her at least basic coverage until she gets her PR, aswell as coverage for him? Or would his automatic status as a Canadian, as my son give him the same regular coverage I have?

In short I am wondering what options they would have to be covered upon arrival and for her until she gets her PR.

Any leads to the right information would be appreciated.

This relocation is merely in the realm of discussion and consideration at this point, but I want to know what all the possibilities are for my wife and son that can ensure they will not be be ineligible for coverage and thus left with no options should they need it.
Thank you in advance for any help to better understand of things.

Relocate in Alberta, both you and child would be covered by provincial health plan immediately. Some posters said Alberta gives healthcare to a dependant spouse of a Canadian resident with proper legal status:

Hello -

Thank you for your reply and the links. I am sorry I have not been on to reply sooner, but I actually forgot I had been on here as we got busy with life here and the move t Canada has obviously. not transpired yet hence why I am on here with updated queries. My wife and I had our first son, then ended up remaining where we were in Sydney, only to find out 10 months after our son's birth, that we were expecting again, and then just over 9 months later, our second son was born. And we are now looking again to relocating back to Canada, but this time with two boys, while my wife i again expecting, with this coming child due in the early part of the new year. So the question is, if we are able to wrap things up to move up in November at the latest (since airlines will be less agreeable the closer to her due date she gets), how can we have health coverage for her with which she can give birth when he is due? We need to be out of our place as its getting too small, and with our lease up around the time the baby is due, we do not want to be moving at the same time for obvious reasons. So in saying that, we decided we would like to be hitting two birds with one stone instead of moving somewhere else for now to then have to move again to get to Canada and get settled later. It would be great to be there and settled before Christmas, and ready for the baby's rrival. While we are aiming to apply form here for her PR, we will not likely have it before we fly. So she would likely have to enter on an EoSTA while waiting for her PR but where does that leave her coverage-wise? And while our boys I think, are covered under me, I need to make sure she will be covered to as we cant have any issues and will not be able to gulp out-of-pocket debts just so our new baby can be born. Any straight-forward advice in this would be great :-)
