Okay, so COBRA definitely doesn't seem like a good option, haha. I'll look into that link about the private insurance in Ontario and also travelers insurance, I guess.

Lol, well it's much cheaper I'd bet than a delivery in Canada with no insurance - if it'd work.

I tried to find a good link for travel insurance for you - but I don't think that is going to cover pregnancy. It's more for an emergency I think - it appears that somehow they might be able to deny maternity coverage.

I'd also check with your current insurance/which would be your COBRA(if you think about going that way even with the cost) because they may have restrictions on your travel during your pregnancy (in googling for travel ins that would cover an article indicated they might)

My delivery, mind you twins c-section was just under 35K for just me

Thanks for the knowledge! So I should definitely move at least 3 months before my due date, if I want my baby to be covered through my husband's OHIP (because he's here in the States with me and will have to wait 3 months to get the OHIP back, yes?).

Technically - just your husband would need to move.
But your better off going because many Drs don't allow travel after a certain point I think.
So that'd put you having to move next month? Eek!

I'll look into private insurance that would cover my pregnancy. There's no way I'm paying even $2,000 for my delivery! I'd just stay in the States and move to Canada afterward.

I think that your baby wont have the problem at all, as soon as it is born. Your husband wont have coverage for 3 months after he moves, and you for 3 months after you officially land (anyone correct that if I am misstating). So I don't know that the three months is as big an issue for the baby as you may feel.

I really hope it works out that I can just have the baby in Canada. Having the baby here would require moving (by car!) with a newborn (if my perm residency even goes through by December) and then having to get situated right away... once again, with a newborn. I would just feel so much more comfortable having the baby where I'll be staying!

My husband was living there when we met! Well, technically he was living in Toronto when we met, but he had moved out to Banff right before I moved up there to be with him! It was so magical... I miss it!

Ahhhh, I spent a lot of time there as a young(er) person. We skied Lake Louise all the time. I am most looking forward to my daughter being able to ski the mountains- she has no concept of what a real ski slope is!

I also miss the mountain goats on the highway and the moose wandering around in town! What a trip down memory lane.

In the US? I don't think that's possible- though I could be wrong - but it seems unlikely.
Your own child can no longer be covered after a certain age unless they are a full time student - till a certain age I believe at least that's all I've ever had in my plans.

As far as OHIP-I've emailed them regarding coverage for my own kids. I was under the understanding if you go the Certificate of Citizenship route (and it takes 10 months to process) that they'd still have to wait 3 months upon taking up residence (legally) but that was just my understanding - not confirmed.
