Hello,

I got a full time job only 9 months before my 3-year Post Grad Work Permit expires in June 2016, so I cannot meet the 1 year work experience.

Before this job I was doing contract job but it says self-employed experience doesn't count.

Could anyone give me some advices on applying to Permanent Residence through CEC? Can I get a work permit extension?

Thanks.

From what you say you, your experience will not qualify you for CEC but do you qualify for FSW by any chance?. I believe that you have to have '3 months' or less to be able to apply for a WP extension.

Happy to be corrected by anyone if I'm wrong.

But Federal Skilled Worker Program also requires 1-year full time work experience?
Yes - but it doesn't have to be in Canada.

I'm wondering if I want to apply CEC then how do I get the work permit extension?
Unfortunately, you can’t extend your PGWP. You would have to find an employer that is willing to go through the LMIA process. If a positive LMIA in hands, you could apply to a new WP.

Thanks everyone. One more question: self-employed experience doesn't count in CEC, but does it count in FSW's one year work experience? If so then I think I can apply FSW?

I believe that's correct. From my reading, 'self-employed' experience counts for CRS points, and for FSW but not for CEC.

The only thing is for FSW it has to be for (or be a part of) a minimum of 1 yrs experience in your field under the same NOC.

If your created EE profile shows you're eligible for CEC just adjust the relevant sections to become eligible for both.

What exactly is the LMIA process? How long does it take for an employer to get a positive LMIA?

From what I know the LMIA process can take an extremely long time as the employer has to extensively advertise the job and basically prove that they are employing you as a foreign worker because they cannot find a Canadian who can do the job. Can take months to complete from what I have heard.

Thanks a lot JoacRy! I guess I will apply for FSW instead of CEC... does FSW take much longer than CEC? Or both can be done in 6 months in Express Entry?

The process with FSW may take longer as there are more requirements than the CEC immigration streamline. More requirements means more documentation which in turn can lead to greater application examination by case officers, additional background checks etc.

I have read threads on this forum where some people under FSW have had their application procrssed quickly and others where the process has taken longer.

The way I see it, the more precise information you provide the faster an application can potentially be processed.
