Hello,

I am a Canadian citizen who works In America. Im getting married to an American woman in a few weeks (jitters). I was planning on sponsoring her for a PR, on the website it says you must intend to move to Canada once her PR is issued, however it doesn’t specify we have to move immediately after. My goal was to move back to Canada in a few years but it all depends on work, but I’d like to have her PR secured before any move.

Just trying to understand if its okay to to start a PR application asap and get her PR stamped out or wait.

thanks!

You shouldn’t apply until you have concrete proof that you will be returning to Canada.

That’s not how it works

You have to show proof you’re moving back, PR isn’t some escape hatch in case you need it down the road
