Hi,

How much proof of funds would I need if I got a valid job offer from an employer (not LMIA nor sponsorship) where housing is offered and the cost is taken from your monthly paycheck? I have been researching different work permit programs but none are straight forward. I am currently on a study permit and will be returning home soon. However I am currently working at a resort which offers accommodation and is willing to hire me as a permanent employee. So I am hoping to return on a work permit. What should I do?

So you will be on a PGWP? If so, you would not need to show proof of funds.

No, I will not be on PGWP. I came to Canada as an exchange student, so I did not graduate from the school.

So what open work permit are you eligible for? If not on an open work permit, you need a LMIA to apply for a closed work permit.

I do not know what open work permit I am eligible for. That’s why I reached out to this group. And my current employer is not going to sponsor nor get an LMIA for me. But is willing to give me a job.

What country are your from? How old are you? Are you in Canada now? So you are not eligible for an open work permit unless you graduated from a Canadian post-secondary school and applying for a PGWP or have a spouse who has a study or work permit. The link tells you who is eligible for a OWP. If not on the list, you need a LMIA and then apply for a closed work permit. If employer not willing to go through the process, then find an employer who will.

The employer will need to obtain an approved LMIA in order for you to qualify to work on a closed work permit - unless you qualify for an open work permit through the IEC / Working Holiday Visa program. As said above, this will depend on several factors such as your age and country of origin. If you can provide these details, we can help you to determine if you qualify under this program. If you don't meet the requirements of this program, then you would need to go with a closed work permit which requires an LMIA.

Please I need ask. My applied for wP with my spouse and kid since dec and passed medicals in January. And we have been on background chk since then. I raised a web form and our tracker was updated 18 may. But to my surprise, only spouse eligibility review began on gckey and tracker while main applicant eligibility hasn’t started. Does it happen like this???

The applications are processed separately, so yes, this is quite possible.
