Hi,

I was sponsored by my husband and obtained my canada visa 6 months after the application was processed. I was not able to move in to Canada within the 6 month requirement indicated in my visa and the visa is now expired. I am under the understanding that we have to go through the entire process again. Does anyone knows if it will take 6 months again for a decision to be made or if it will be much faster since my application was once approved?

You need to tell us which Visa Office you used and we can give you a rough idea. No one will be able to say 100%

You didn't have to move within the 6 month period, you just needed to go to Canada and land, that is activate your PR status but you didn't so it's too late now.

If you apply again, it could take 6 months again or less or more. I don't know if they can re-open your old file to save time but it is also possible that your visa office is busier now than they were when you applied the first time and that it will take longer this time.

Thank you for your responses. I used the Canada visa office in
Mississauga.

I have been to Canada as a visitor since then but failed to bring the documentation with me since I was not ready to stay there permanently.

No - we are asking which country visa office was responsible for processing your application. All applications are first sent to Mississauga. But then they are sent to another visa office for futher processing. Where was yours sent after Mississauga?

Big mistake there. You didn't have to stay permanently right away, just process your papers before the expiry date. After that, you could have left again. Now you will have to apply again, wait again and pay all the fees again.

I know, it was a huge mistake on my part.
The processing office was Buffalo, NY I believe.

Buffalo is now closed. All US cases go through Ottawa. Ottawa officially lists their processing time as 13 months for 80% of all cases.

The link to the Ottawa spreadsheet is in my link. Take a look!
