Hello. I am planning to move to Canada. While pursuing for masters in US I had a minor criminal record which has been expunged now since it was a one time offence. I was wondering if this will affect my PR process.

That depends on the nature of your offense, usually anything serious result in an automatic rejection for security reasons.

However, if your PCC doesn't list such offense and if you are sure it's not all that serious , then it won't really affect your chances of getting a PR visa to Canada. That being said, you MUST declare this in your background history during the filling of the eAPR after getting your ITA.

Thanks for your reply. It was because of selling alcohol to an underage. The court had ordered me to perform a community service and later agreed to drop the charges. Later I was informed by my attorney that i was eligible for an expungement.

That could be considered a serious offense in certain provinces in Canada, but since IRCC is a federal agency and obtaining a PR visa happens at the federal level, you really need to speak to a licensed immigration lawyer about it and perhaps share with him your case docket and any relevant police reports and only he/she can really tell you if you can apply or not.

It's quite tricky for anyone here to respond to you.
