Hi All,

I worked in Canada for almost 2+yrs. Applied PR and travelled back to my home country.
Afterwords, I finished medical+other formalities from my home country to complete the process for PR.

Before i made a port of entry to Canada for PR, my status has been changed. i got married
i would like to go to Canada along with my wife ensuring that she too can work over there.

Can i go on the basis of PR visa and can take her on visitor visa sponsored by my company
Henceforth, she can apply for open work permit on the basis of my PR card. Is that possible ??

Please advice.

Your MUST return your PR visa to the visa office and let them know that you are now married. The PR visa was issued when you were single. You are now married and consequently your PR visa is no longer valid. Whatever you do, do not land in Canada using the PR visa you have now. If you land using the PR visa you have now, you will be committing misrepresentation (lying about your status) which means you will never be able to sponsor your wife and may have your own PR status revoked for landing as a single person when you were actually married.

At this point you only have one option. You must return your PR visa to the visa office and let them know you are now married. You must then submit all of the forms and other paperwork (medical, police checks) to add your wife to your application. You must then wait for CIC to process her paperwork. Once they have finished, they will issue a new PR visa for both of you. You will then be able to land in Canada.

AGain, this is your ONLY option. If you do anything else, you will never be able to sponsor your wife and may lose your own PR status.

Thanks Scylla!! Presently i am in my home country. Can you please help me out where i have to return my PR visa to get the status updated as Married.
my PR visa was issued at New Delhi. So in brief i have to follow these steps

1)Send PR visa for updation to visa office. Do i need to essentially send marriage certificate to get it updated
or on the basis of my saying they will do.
2)Once they updated the status to married and added my spouse name thereafter only i should initiate PR visa for her.

Note: My PR visa deadline is approaching as 25-March-2015. is that extended since my spouse PR is required to do.

Email the office where you have been receiving communications from that your marital status has changed. The question is when you did your status change when you when you were asked for your passport stamping? If noo, you are good, and await instructions from the visa office. They will be providing you instructions as to what address to send your passport etc.

thanks!! how abour PR visa expiration date. Will that could be extended since my status change request need to get updated.
Also, I would like to apply PR for my husband which will take substantial time. will that help me to extend the PR visa expiration dates.

Your PR visa expires a year after your medical. I don't think they'll extend that. So better let them know you are now married and present the documents ASAP.

Hi maniac2403/ZingyDNA,

Greetings!! i was receiving communication mails from CPC-CTD-OTTAWA. I had already notified to them regarding my status changed and awaiting for them to response back on my mail to proceed PR for my wife further and make a port of entry before my PR visa expires.

Unfortunately, with forum sites and i myself realised that nowadays CPC-CTC-OTTAWA automation mail is not quick. sometimes, its taking 30-40 days for the respective people to revert.

This is taking ages and would probably land me in trouble. i am not getting any ray of hope.
Is there any way to expedite. i do have sent a reminder mail to them, however no response.

Please advice.

Unfortunately, all you can do right now is send another reminder email if it has been more than 2 weeks since you last emailed. Your spousal PR should be approved earlier than the immigration visa expiry, if her file is in order. Be prepared with PCC(s) for her when asked.

Hi Maniac2403/Skylla,

Finally, CPC-CTD-OTTAWA responded to my mail.
They asked to return COPR & Passport to New Delhi office(from where its issued) for the cancellation of PR visa since my marital status got changed.

Their office will email the instruction on how to add spouse to my application once New Delhi receives my COPR & Passport.

Now question is: How do i returned the PP and copr to delhi office

1)Should i walk in to the New Delhi office and return the COPR & PP.
2)Should i corrier them with a cover note regarding what has to be done.
I mean, how will they understand whats the matter with my application.

Going further, i suppose..Once they receive COPR+PP, probably they will mail all other docs required for my spouse to add into the application and then will generate new PR for both of us. However, my PR visa expitation date won't change :(

Please correct if i am missing anything here.

Your added spouse also has to go for Medicals and Background Checks , Just to be aware.

Mail your documents to the New Delhi office.

CIC will need to perform all of the security/background/criminal checks on your wife. You can expect this to take at least a few months, on top of the time that it takes you to prepare and submit the necessary forms, documents, PCCs and medical.

Because of that, your visa expiration date will almost certainly change. The expiration date is tied to the date you did your medical. Either CIC will extend your medical for another year or they will require you to undergo a new medical and the new visa will be valid a year from the date of the new medical.
