HELLO!

I got married in Ontario July 2010. I changed my last name to my husbands last name. For getting new passport(EU passport) with new last name, i need to legalize the marriage certificate(goverment in my home country request it), and the website says it can take up to 7weeks. After that I can apply new passport, which will take up to 6weeks. So thats 13weeks waiting from now.
My visitor visa expires December 1st, so I need to apply extensions before November 1st. Should I put reason already to explanation why I wanna extend my visa(which is applying PR and being with my husband) Or just say I wanna spend time with my husband and there is chance that my family is coming to Canada for Xmas-new year as well...
We are planning to apply outland, since its much faster and we are planning our honeymoon for the next year.
Im little bit scared apply outland, if i dont get the extension to my visa. Can i apply it second time if it get refused? And can I apply inland if it get refused(apply new extension at the same time of course).
And if we will go with outland application, can we send the sponsorship application to Mississauga(right?) before i got my passport? Or is it better to have everything together?

Thank you so much...

You have to apply for both sponsorship and permanent residence at the same time. If you haven't started to do so already, you should start gathering police clearances that you will need as these usually take a while to arrive, depending on your country of origin.

On your application for visitor's extension, you should mention that you are almost ready to file your application for PR outland. You should not have too many problems receiving the extension, provided you meet the necessary criteria.

Thank you! That was really helpful!
We have proves, like
- msn conversations before i came(i have been in canada since last october, but we were in mexico 4months at the spring time)and when my husband has been travelling cause of work. I have i think something like 200 or more pages, i shouldnt send all of them??
- emails with him and with his family (when he was travelling.)
- i got my phonebills from my home country(where you can see i have send txts and calls to him before i came)
- my name is on our lease(we are moving end of this month tho)
- we have joint account since end of last year
-photos(not so many, what i have read what people have send, but of course pics with family, wedding pics etc.)
- cards from friends
- few letters from friends and family, how they see our relationship.
That should be enough?
I dont have all proves since i came, cause it was first time we saw, and we didnt know how things are gonna go. We have talked first time online 2006, but we dont have proves, cause it was just talking sometimes, we both were dating back then. I was just interested to come and see Canada, cause my stepfather is half canadian.

For extension, i should be fine. My husband has good salary and he is supporting me all this time! He is changing job now, does that affects with pr?
He is willing to send bank statements(he has alot of savings also). I dont have plane ticket back, but we dont have problem to buy it if needed.
Only thing im worried, how i can prove that i will go back to my home country? i will, of course if i have to. But i dont have job, apartment(i was living at my moms before i came, i have address to my home country tho). Does it counts that last time i left before my visa even expired? Should i take copy of my passport page that i have landed to mexico before my visa expired in canada?

MY husband is canadian, and im from scandinavia, i dont know does it matters...

This is sooo exiting time, and confusing also :D

Thank you for your help, im sure there is many conversations of this, but every case is different.

Have a great sunny day!! :P

ok...lots of questions. I hope I don't miss any!

apply for your visitor's extension, and start assembling the pieces you need for your PR application. It might surprise you how long it can take to gather all of the necessary evidence. I'm not sure what the region-specific requirements are for Scandinavia, but I would imagine you need to have a police clearance, like everyone else. That would be my first step. You can assemble the rest of the required documents while waiting for all of the police clearances to be returned to you - you need one from every country you have lived in for 6 months or longer since you were 18 years old. So, if you lived in Mexico as well as your home country in Scandinavia before coming to Canada, you need to have police checks from both countries.

Your proof of relationship documentation sounds pretty good. you don't need to be worried about having a certain number of pictures - it's more important to have quality pictures than any particular number - so, wedding pictures, pictures from trips and vacations, pictures with various family members. Better to send 30 good pictures that help tell the story of your relationship than 300 pictures that are all very similar.

Your husband changing jobs will not affect his ability to sponsor you for permanent residence. There is no income requirement for sponsorship, but you cannot be receiving welfare (doesn't sound like an issue in your case).

I hope this answers your questions! good luck!!

Thank you Minna! Im a lot smarter now ;D

Im so happy this forum exists :) :)

Good luck to everyone!!

oh, one more ;D

how long police clearance is valid? one year like medicals?

never mind. i check my goverments website, and it says its valid only 6months, so i shouldnt apply it yet...?And i think i need to wait until my information is updated to my home country(last name), so i would get it in last name i have in my new passport....

Hi, Millu!

Why don't you apply using your Maiden Name? Most people send their documents before updating them to married name, CIC doesn't really mind, and it will save you a lot of time.

About the police certificates - they need to be no older than 3 months by the time CIC receives your application.

Hope this helps! :)

Hi again!

Just wondering.. did you change your name legally? Or are you just using your marriage certificate to change your IDs? I got married in Ontario too, I didn't think we were able to get a legal change of name if we're not canadian!

Bonbon gives the best advice I could give! Get your police certificate now and send in your application as soon as you get it. All you have to do to update your name change is send them a copy of your new passport once it arrives. Having your PR application in the system will make it much simpler to get a visitor's extension when the time comes as well.

Thank you for all advices!

Yeah, all this changing name thing has been confusing :D Anyway, when i update my last name to my home country, i can get new passport with new name, after that its completely legal, what i have heard.
All i have to do is send marriage certificate to Ottawa, so they will confirm its legal. Then i will walk to my countrys embassy and they will send the information to my home country. After week or so, i can apply new passport with my last name and my maiden name will be history :D
The reason i wanna do it and wait, cause i think it shows more evidence that you marriage is genuine. And your PR card will be with you new last name then. I find its easier, even if it takes more time now.
Or how it will work if i apply with my maiden name? The PR card will be with my maiden name, althought my new passport will be wit my new name later...And do i have to prove that im changing my last name after pr is done?
I have to say, now im interested to apply with my maiden name, but i have to find all information about it before doing it, we have pretty much everything else to application, except my immigration pics, police clearance and medicals. And those are easy part i think :D

Thank you for all your advices!
:-* hahaha

EDIT
would it be ok to call toll free, and ask about this maiden name thingy... :D If immigration officers can give us more information....?

Hi again!
After reading a few messages in this forum I realised CIC doesn't really take your changing of name as an evidence. I wouldn't worry much about the PR being in your maiden name, after all, you can have the rest of your documents (passport, driver's licence, etc..) in your married name simply providing a copy of your marriage certificate. Besides, I think CIC would get a little confused with having different proofs of relationship (for example, old airplane tickets issued on your Maiden's name) if you're using 2 different names. Seems like things can go smoother if you use one name only, and worry about changing your name later!
See it as.. something to spend your time in while waiting for PR process to complete :)

Hope this helps!

Hi, plumosa!

Ohh, this is new to me, I didn't know they could actually update your name after the process has been started!

Still, I'd have all papers in the initial application under my maiden's name, just to save time and confusion with CIC.

;)

Hehe :) This forum is great, everyone is super friendly and will try to answer your questions, supportive, it's awesome!

I think they might get confused if there are different names in different ID's, or in different parts of the application itself (forms).
I guess if you send emails they will see the same email address, or same facebook account, with both married and maiden names, they could realise it's the same person.. I don't know if it makes sense, hehe :P

Anyway, good luck! :)
