Hey everyone,

My friend has an open work permit in Canada, but it has that common condition on it:
“Not authorized to work in childcare, primary/secondary school teaching, health service field occupations.”

They’ve already done their medical (IME) and submitted an application to remove the condition, but it’s still being processed.

In the meantime, they’ve been offered a job as a vet assistant or receptionist in an animal hospital. The clinic only treats animals — there’s no contact with human patients.

We’re trying to confirm whether working in a veterinary clinic counts as a “health service field occupation” or not under IRCC’s definition. Has anyone been in a similar situation or gotten a clear answer from IRCC?

Would really appreciate any insights or experiences you can share. Thanks in advance!

Well vets and vet assistants are under the category draws for healthcare so your friend decides. How can they have no contact with humans?

By no contact with humans, I meant the primary contact is with a pet. So they are not authorized to work even as a receptionist in a vet clinic?

Call IRCC and ask. A receptionist is not under the healthcare draw categories but check about vet assistants which may be.
