Suppose I apply for a one year course and after its completion, I get a one year work permit. Now say, after 2 months of getting that work permit, I get a job in my field of interest. So after 10 months of working for my employer, my work permit will expire, what will happen then?
I feel I should pursue a one year course as it's economically feasible...
Can I apply for PR after 10 months of working in Canada? I thought we need show that we worked for 1 year in order to apply for PR, I'm not sure though.
And would it be easy to get a work permit extension from my employer? What would it depend on?

A PGWP cannot be extended unless it was issued short due to passport expiry. To go the employer route you would need the employer to support an LMIA application which most employers are not keen to do given it costs them to apply.

What if I agree to bear the costs from my salary?

Also note that if you take another course, you will not qualify for another PGWP. A PGWP is something you can only apply for once in your lifetime.

I can pursue 2 one year courses...then if I apply for PGWP, I'll get a three year PGWP right?
But if I study for one year and work for one year then again study for one year, I can't apply for a PGWP.
Is that what you mean?

No - that's not what I mean. I'm saying that you can only get a PGWP once. So it doesn't matter if you take a 1 year program and get a 1 year PGWP or take a 2 year program and get a 3 year PGWP - once that PGWP is finished, you can never get another one again, even if you take more courses.

If your aim is PR, make sure you take a 2 year program so that you qualify for a 3 year PGWP.
