which means once you have your ceremony, you cannot apply the next two business days, so you apply on the third day after your citizenship ceremony. If you need your passport urgently you should apply at a passport office and take proof of travel. You can then ask for urgent processing ($110 extra) which means you can pick up the passport at the end of the next business day after your request. (You can ask for express service, $50 extra, which lets you pick up the passport 2-9 business days after you made the request).

(Check the requirements to apply for a passport, so you can gather the necessary information -- photos etc -- and know who you will ask as your guarantor and two references. Make sure they can be reached by the passport office, so don't pick people who won't answer their phone or may be travelling or so.)

From what I understood, it is recommended to wait at least 2 business days after the oath. If you apply sooner, there is a chance that your status update is not yet in the system. So if you apply the next day, you could be lucky and your information is in the system.... or not. They tell you 2 business days so you don't waste your time (and complain to IRCC). But if you don't mind that risk, i'm sure there is no harm.

On the oath letter we received, it says wait 3 business days before you apply for Passport.

Check ECAS before you go to the passport office. If your status has changed to "Complete" you should be OK to apply. My oath was on a Wednesday at 2 PM. Thursday night it still said "In Process", Friday morning changed to "Complete", so I headed down and had no problems.

To add my two cents, while you're waiting, decide on who's gonnabe your guarantor and your references (x2). Fill your passport application, take your passport photos and just be ready to walk in to the office to submit on the third day (after the two business days). Since you want your passport urgently, you can get your passport on the next business day (day 4) if you're willing to pay $110 extra on top of your base fee.

My ECAS is now showing "COMPLETE" as of yesterday, I will apply for PP on Monday morning, my documents are ready!

Too bad they don't offer to have a passport ready at oath(or mailed to the recipient), as an add-on service. They wouldn't need the references or guarantor, since they are doing background checking as part of the process.
