Hi folks!

I am wondering if a sponsor can travel out of Canada during the process of family sponsorship?

As am sponsering my wife, if I'll need to travel away (durin the sponsorship process), and I would like to know if I can do it so?

Will there be a obligation? If I travel away, how long can I be out of Canada?

Cheers

Are you a Canadian citizen or PR?

Also, I assume you have submitted an outland and not an inland application.

You need to limit your time outside of Canada since you are a PR and are required to live in Canada to qualify to sponsor your spouse. General rule is to keep it to three weeks and not to be away too often.

Also, I'm assuming you've submitted an outland and not an inland application to sponsor your spouse.

Thanks for your reply. Well, my idea would be going for a month, though, but If it is limited to 3 weeks, I'd be considering it. I haven't travelled since we've applied. I've submitted a Inland application.

If it's an inland application, then that's a second reason for keeping trips outside of Canada short. The inland application process requires the applicant and sponsor to be cohabitating in Canada.

Got it! My wife just came back to Canada after a 3.5 weeks travel due to necessary reasons. She has a biometrics scheduled this month and her due time for her PR app is on March. Gladly, she got back to Canada without any problem.

I'll limit my time to 3 weeks then. Really appreciated your answer.

You are really pushing the envelope here. Your wife was gone for 3.5 weeks and now you are leaving for another 3 weeks? That's 6.5 weeks of not cohabitating. The suggestion of 3 weeks limits was meant as time apart outside Canada, not something you can add to the time living apart.

3 weeks can be both time outside Canada together or one spouse out of Canada. Would agree that you are accumulating a lo of time outside Canada. Technically you shouldn't be spending any time outside Canada.

Hi there, what about if the sponsor is a Canadian citizen? What if the sponsor visits the applicant for lets say 8 weeks while still maintaining employment and home in Canada?

A citizen can visit their spouse if they are applying outland.

No issues with travel, you can be out of country for whatever time you want.
The OP is PR and they applied inland. Thus both the sponsor and applicant are required to stay in Canada for the duration of the application process.
