I'm currently putting together an application to sponsor my husband from Mauritania to Canada. Two of the forms, IMM0008 and IMM1344 would NOT open on any computer from my husband's side. We tried all the trouble shooting possible but frankly he does not have access to a decent computer in his current country and he is unable to run any Adobe updates on the computers he has tried.

Our solution was for me to scan a copy of the last page (where applicant has to sign) as a jpeg, he printed it off and signed it and is DHLing it to me in Canada for me to sign and add to the application. Does anyone know if this will still count as an "original" since both of our actual, non-copied/scanned signatures will be on the document. It's just a scan of the actual page. We just want to avoid all hold-ups.

Forms need to be signed. I would assume the meaning is that they has to be signed in person but I imagine some people did what you suggested. I would not though as it may be considered not original by CIC

Ok. Both signatures will have happened in person it's just the blank last page being scanned so he can print it prior to signatures. PDFs not even opening from the CIC website directly.

Try having your husband use a different web browser to access the PDFs (like Internet Explorer). Also try using a free PDF reading (like Foxit)

Just an opinion, but I would think that it's the original signature on the form (in what ever final format it takes) that is important. I'd make sure that if you send it as a JPEG, when he prints it out the size and resolution are the same as they would be in a PDF. My only other concern would be if there are barcodes or security features on those pages.

Instead of scanning the page, try printing to a file. On the Print screen, where you select which printer to use, there may be options such as "PDF writer" or "XPS writer". This will create a file identical to what would be sent to the printer, so it should be impossible to identify it as unoriginal, but the file will be a simpler format that should be more compatible.

What i meant is that if CIC sees that there is no ink impression on the form they received it may be deemed not original forms by them. So, in my opinion it is important that all docs/forms have ALL signatures imprinted on them and not reprinted or scanned with existing signatures. It will be up to the officer discretion whether to deem it original or not, but do you really want to take this chance? Better use the time you have to find how to resolve the PDF opening issue or send the forms back and forth.
