Hi everyone,
I would like to ask for some opinions regarding my situation.
I am currently applying for permanent residence through Express Entry with a Nova Scotia provincial nomination. I have been living in Halifax, Nova Scotia for about nine years. I purchased a property in Halifax in 2019, and I have been living there continuously since 2022.
I graduated from a post-secondary institution in Nova Scotia in 2023 and have been working continuously for a local employer in Nova Scotia since then, for almost three years. My current work is also closely related to information management / information technology.
I applied for a Nova Scotia provincial nomination in November 2024. I received my nomination in February 2026, and the nomination was officially issued near the end of February 2026. My PGWP will expire in August 2026, and my PR application is currently at the Express Entry processing stage.
Before I received my nomination, I was worried that my NS nomination might not be approved in time. Because of that, I applied to a university in Ontario as a backup plan and was admitted to a two-year information-related undergraduate program. The program is highly relevant to my current work, and this is also the last year the program will be offered as a two-year program, as it will become a four-year program starting next year.
My question is: if I attend this temporary two-year program in Ontario while my Express Entry PR application based on my Nova Scotia nomination is still in process, could this negatively affect my PR application or my Nova Scotia nomination?
My long-term settlement intention remains in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I have been living, studying, working, and owning property in Nova Scotia for many years, and I intend to return to Halifax after completing the temporary two-year study program. I am not planning to relocate to Ontario permanently.
Has anyone had experience with a similar situation, where they were a provincial nominee with PR in process and temporarily studied in another province? Would it be advisable to consult NSNP or IRCC, or should I speak with an immigration lawyer first?
Thank you in advance for any advice or shared experience.
