I am a canadian citizen by birth and I sponsored my common law partner to become a resident here in canada. We had a baby and within 2 weeks after he was granted his residency he left my home. Is there anything that can be done? Obviously he never loved me and lied to me to get what he wanted. Now I'm left to care for his baby and watch him do whatever he wants to do.

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do regarding his immigration status. You can probably consult with a family lawyer for options, such as child support or thing like that.

Wow. They should have left that thing where you needed to stay together for 2 years after and if you dont they lose their residency. So just like that he gets granted his residency and he lives free with no consequences. Pretty disappointing

You can report to CIC that you believe it was a marriage of convenience (yes even common law has that) and let them see if they wish to pursue it. All you can do is report it and if they decide to do something with it, they will. You will not be kept in the loop as to what they are doing though, so just be aware.

Presumably it is your baby too...

You should also note that if he claims welfare at any time in the 3 years after he lands, you will be required to pay the government back.

Perfect thank you. I will phone them tomorrow.

I dont mind taking care of my baby but I believe he should also be helping financially as well as he is working and making good money. He is living the life and not taking care of his responsibilities is what I dont like. And yes I knew about the welfare thing. Thank you

If hes making good money, you should go start child support proceedings against him. Otherwise I dont think there's much you can do with deporting him, unless its proven he provided false info about himself prior to getting PR.
