Hi all,

My boyfriend is a Canadian permanent resident, and we are applying under the outland stream for common-law sponsorship. We both currently live in Canada.

I would like to ask: would it be an issue if my boyfriend and I travel back to our home country for about three weeks during the application process?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Sponsor departing for vacations of less than a month are generally not an issue.

I don’t recommend leaving the country if you don’t have at least a work permit. This type of status makes re-entering the country easier. However, if your status is only as a “visitor” and your application is outland, a CBSA agent can deny your entry and tell you to wait for your application abroad.

Remove the word `boyfriend' from your vocabulary; he is your Common-Law partner...right?;)

Do you have valid TRV/eTA to return?
It's usually fine for sponsor to travel outside for a few weeks.

It's fine when the status in Canada is at least worker or student. Otherwise, CBSA can deny the entry because the person is not long a "visitor".
