Hello everyone,

I’d like to learn about accessing ABA therapy after immigrating to Canada as a permanent resident. If a family has a child diagnosed with autism before arriving in Canada, can they apply for provincial autism funding immediately, or must they meet additional residency requirements?

Are there waiting periods before children can receive government-funded services?

I’m also interested in knowing whether families need a Canadian medical assessment or can use an existing diagnosis from their home country.

If anyone has gone through this process after landing, could you share your experience and explain which documents were required?

I think the rules can be different depending on the province, so it's worth checking with local services first. I'd also keep all the medical records and diagnosis documents from your home country. They may be useful, even if a new assessment is needed. Hopefully someone who has been through this can share their experience!
