Hello,

In two weeks I will be moving back to Canada with my wife. She is Korean. I am Canadian and will be working in BC for about six months. We are planning on leaving Canada after seven months.
I know that Koreans are given six month visa-free entry on arrival. Is it easy (and cheap) to extend this? Otherwise, is a quick trip to Seattle sufficient for another month's stay in Canada?
I assume it isn't a problem that we will be arriving on a one-way ticket? Is there any other documentation we should be bringing with us?
And no, we won't be applying for permanent residency this year.
Thanks very much for your tips!

Craig

It is easy to renew her status in Canada. Go on the CIC website and apply for an extension. She will have implied status until the visa is either granted or denied at which time she will be given a date to depart by. It will likely take longer the apply and get the visa than you will need. Just apply about 30 days before the expiry date of the date written in her passport.

If there is no date written in the passport she has 6 months from the date of arrival.

One thing, don't attempt to overstay if you don't have the extension. CIC knows when you arrive and leave so maybe she can be here during 7 months and go back home with no problems, when she comes back she will have in her profile that she overstayed, and that will be a bad mark on her file.
