I have filed all docs for CEC and waiting for ITA. Currently holding closed work permit but I lost my job.
Wonder if I can work while waiting for my PR?

How much time usually does CEC PR take?

At this time you are only permitted to work for the employer who is named on your closed work permit. You cannot work for any other employer.

Once you receive ITA and submit your complete application, you will be able to apply for a BOWP. Once the BOWP is approved, you will hold an open work permit and will be able to work for any employer.

Wow sounds good! Thank you so much.

Do you know how much time does it take BOWP get approved (normally)?

I believe it takes a few months.

The important factor will be how soon you get ITA and can submit your full application.

I see, thanks.
One more clarification: When applying for BOWP, I shouldn't be working, right?
(Now resignation is under process and also hoping to get ITA next week).

You can only work for your current employer who is listed in your closed work permit.

You cannot work for a different employer while applying for the BOWP.

You have to wait until the BOWP is approved before you can switch employers.

Are you resigning or are you being let go / fired? If you are resigning, then you may not be able to successfully apply for the BOWP until your current closed work permit is expiring within 4 months. How long is your closed work permit still valid?

Thanks for the answers @scylla,

My work permit has more than 4month validity. How did you know 4months? I haven't seen on gov websites.

Also, why layoff vs volunteer resignation matters?
Thank you!

Also, if you lose your Job then you will lose 50 points that you get for your job offer. This will lead to your score being reduced and if your score after that is below cutoff then ur PR wont be approved.

Thanks for the update and quick reply. I'll be sure to keep an eye on this thread. Looking for the same concern.

@kartikj001 , that's terrible!
Is it even after you submit and get acknowledgement letter?
Thats what is said all over the forum... and few people have had their points taken off. This only applied for closed work permit people.
Yes, it applies even after you submit and get acknowledgement letter.

u can research it if you want.. there are mutiple posts in the visa forum highlighting the same time and some people whose points were taken off

Can someone explains me why we should apply in 4 months of expiration?
Also, do I need an offer when applying for BOWP?
Thanks.
