can i work in canada in the first semester ?

if i cant work then are odd jobs available in provinces other than ontario

It is illegal to work off campus during the first six months of your studies. Once you have completed six months of studies, you can then apply for an off campus work permit.

During the first six months, you however can take an on campus job (job at the university or college you're attending).

YOu can work but that will be illegal and if you are caught, worst case scenario will be expulsion from canada
best case scenario :you will be given a warning
average case scenario :you will be fined
