Can I use my valid WP/TRV while I wait for my first PR card?

Hello guys,

As the title suggests, I did my virtual landing and got my CoPR document by email. My question is, can I still use my valid Work permit and TRV to re-enter Canada if I left while my first PR card is being processed? or did they cancel my previous status when I did the virtual landing?

Would really appreciate your help

1. Once the COPR is activated, the TRV and WP are supposed to be cancelled by CIC.

In reality I think that often takes a while. For visa exempt nationals, it isn't uncommon for there to be a 3+ month delay before any pre-existing eTA's are revoked.

So your profile implies you landed 2016 so assume you are asking for someone else. Also note is not just about entering Canada but whether if you are flying getting past the airline checkin agent with the current travel restrictions which can be challenging for TRV holders

I am actually asking for myself. I landed in 2016 with a study permit, then turned it into a PGWP, and I finally got approved for a PR now. I appreciate your tip though

If you leave Canada without your PR card, planned to apply for a PRTD before you return. Unless you can cross by land via US border. (can use COPR)

Most important, I don't think you can get through the airline checkin.

HI Omar, I am in similar situation. Were you able to use your work visa TRV to enter without PR card?

You should assume it won't be possible. If you are flying into Canada, you will need either an approved PRTD or a valid PR card. The exception is that if you are re-entering Canada from the US through a land border. In that case you can use your COPR to re-enter Canada.
