Hi all,

I landed as a Permanent Resident in Toronto a week ago today so I don't have my PR card yet, just a copy of the Confirmation of Permanent Residence in my passport.

I am planning a trip to Niagara Falls this weekend and want to stay in the US overnight - will I be ok coming back in without the PR card? I will obviously have my passport and confirmation of permanent residence, but I notice that it says not valid for travel.....

Thanks!
Suze

Good question, I was wondering the same for the future.... not got as far as landing yet!
My husband seems to think that land border crossings are fine before the actual PR card arrives but I dont know.
Does anyone know?

If you are driving, you can get into Canada with your COPR but if you are flying, unless you are visa exempt to Canada, the airline may not let you board without a visa so in that case, you would need a travel document from the Canadian embassy.

I haven't even submitted mine, and i am arranging to meet a friend from home in upstate New York! i was going to go up to Niagara, cross over to US for a night, then do my landing as i go back through!

Just call www.cic.gc.ca for more info on this I think
