Can I travel to Canada while I await my passport abroad?

Hi guys,
I will fly to Canada for my oath ceremony, will cut my PR card, and then return to my home in the US.
I am planning to have the certificate send to my friend in Canada which will then mail it to me in the US.

I will then send the appropriate documents to the passport office and await for my Canadian passport. Any idea how long this will take?4-6 weeks?

and most importantly can I travel to Canada on my Polish passport in the meantime? Poland is visa exempt btw.

You cannot fly on your Polish passport but if you travel by land, you would be admitted as a citizen on strength of ID + citizenship certificate.

Of course, this may be a bit lengthier at border - they far prefer and strongly recommend citizens travel on/with Canadian passports, not other docs. But if they know you are a citizen (and you-are-you), the law states you shall be admitted.
