Me and my British boyfriend want to get married. He wants to live in Canada. I do a lot of travelling and I had plans to do a 3 month volunteer trip to India in september. If we get married and I am sponsoring him to become a resident of Canada, will it be okay for me to leave the country for 3 months?

Please help. I have looked on the website and can't find the answer.

If you are a Canadian citizen, you're free to travel whilst you have an application to sponsor in process. If you are a permanent resident of Canada, you have to remain in Canada during processing.

As Robsluv said, not a problem since you're a citizen. But you'll need to be here in Canada when he lands as a PR.

It won't be a problem for you to leave. But it would be nice if you were here when lands and gets his PR. 8)

Actually you must return to Canada when he becomes a PR. I'm sure you'd want to, of course, but it's worth clarifying that you're only allowed to be outside Canada while the sponsorship is in process if you are intending to return to Canada and live with your boyfriend when his PR is approved.
