Hi guys, I have applied for PR and BOWP at the end of March 2017 but no updates so far on the BOWP application. I'm under implied status since my Open WP has expired. Can I switch jobs?

You are better off waiting for your BOWP to be approved as right now, it would appear to a new employer that your SIN is expired.

Technically you could, because when you're on implied status, you continue the status of the previous work permit, and it was an open work permit. But practically speaking, as adaytoremember commented, it might be hard for a new employer to accept this...

Thanks, guys. :)

Just wanted to come back here and say that it is completely fine to switch jobs while under implied status.

My new employer didn't even blink when I told him about it and hired me anyways.

So if there's anyone here with the same doubt, don't worry.

Hello guys,

My husband has applied for BOWP and dependent on him i have applied for SOWP. Our pg work permit is expiring on Sep 01 2018....So in that case can i switch job or work with a new employer?

That's great that you didn't have any problem with your new employer, however, many others have reported employers unwilling to hire them until they got their new permit...

I think you misunderstood my statement..i am actually asking whether can i work with a new employer or not an mine would be implied status?
Will they hire me with expired SIN and just with few proofs of implied status documents.....

Did not misunderstand. Legally they can hire you, legally you can work for a different employer. The only proof of implied status you have is that you applied for a new work permit.

As for "Will they hire you...?" That is exactly the question I addressed.

@jes_ON was replying to another poster in this thread, not you.

You can switch jobs and continue working. I suggest telling them you have applied for PR and are waiting approval as they may question your temporary SIN. Beyond that nothing will probably happen. My OWP expired October 5th. I have applied for BOWP and I'm on implied status. I didn't even notify my employer and its my third pay cheque they haven't said anything. I am switching jobs in January anyway regardless of if I have BOWP by then or not. I have already told them I'm awaiting PR. I won't say about an expired SIN. If payroll questions anything then I'll confess I'm on implied status but I highly doubt that will happen from talking to others in the same situation. Nothing different happens when they input your SIN when you start a company new. They may verify it on Canadian payroll website, but that doesn't check its expiry just that it seems like a valid SIN you can put yours in online. It will only come up when the company files taxes possibly even then I doubt it. It says nowhere on CIC that you need to inform your employer you are on implied status or declare your SIN expiry.
