Awesome thanks so much for all the responses! My company is with Manulife as well. Awesome going to set this this up immeidately. He'll be so happy. Should have did this a year ago lol.

just a question...
so i am on a visitor visa
i get into a horrific car crash
and rushed to hospital
wll they take me in? without medical insurance?
who pays the bills if i dont have the money?
in life and death situations as above what happens.

You will be responsible for the bills unfortunately. You should definitely purchase yourself some travel insurance to cover hospital care. My bf paid $700 for almost a year. That covers 50,000. You can get it for less of a period of time or for less coverage. You never know what could happen, better safe than sorry.

oK i'm filling out the papers right now to get my husband on my medical (he's already on there for my life insurance beneficiary)

So what happens when he goes to the clinic or denstist? Just hands them his coverage card? whenever I go they ask me for my Care card (I'm in BC) And he doesn't have one? the Medical coverage card is enough?

thanks everyone! :)

Yes you can I'm already the beneficiary of my partner I'm his common law partner and I get all the same benefits he does you just have to proof that you are in a common law relationship living together for at Least 1 year!

When you go to the Dentist you have to prove it? Im just asking what happens when he IS covered under my plan and goes to the docs or denstist ... whenever I go I have to supply my Care Card ... which he won't have ... just wondering if anyone here who is not officially yet Landed has gone to the doctor or dentist and what they had to bring with them

I have an International insurance. I asked my doctor to add my insurance number as a reference on the receipt, then I mailed the original receipt to my insurance and I got the money back.
My husband also added me to his Manulife Financial insurance so I'm covered for dentist needs :)

I actually just got off the phone with my HR. They say he can be added no problem. Although I was supposed to add him within 31 days of the one year anniversary of living together ??? Really strange. Anyhow I have to fill out all these forms and send them off to Manulife. He'll get his own benefit card and that's all he will have to show when he goes to dentist.

That is totally weird ???
But anyway, this insurance is something totally good to have kelkel! :)
They sent me an additional card but it does not say my name, it says "MyHusband'sName and family".

I'm also on my husband's work medical insurance, they just automatically added me when he got his new job. They knew I didn't have PR and didn't ask anything else from me, just my full name. I have my own copy of the card I just carry on me, which I assume I'll use if I ever need it. Haven't had to use it in Canada yet.

your from BC i believe

to get medical you need to be in the province for 3 months before they will but you on you apply as soon as you enter the province but there is a waiting period even if your coming from a second province you still have a 3 month waiting period. The medical will but you on but your still not covered until you get the BC medical card i believe and to get one you must show your in canada as landed and papers or a canadain citizin

some other provinces alow medical on day one so maybe check even if your on Maulife or blue cross for dental and drugs

I am just reading this thread and got confused. All of you have different experiences and different stories. I want to know who is in Ontario and married to a canadian, awaiting for Permanet recidence approval and is on visitor status?
I am still a visitor to canadian health care system so as far as I researched, I was not eligible for any coverage. My husband has coverage plan from work.
Now reading other posts I am going to ask my husband to look at it again and see if his wife is covered and what benefits I can get.
Suenim and kelKel are you both from Ontario?

Hi Mandif,

What kind of card did they give you? Health card like OHIP people have?
