Hi

I am a permanent resident and I want to sponsor my parents for PR. My brother is in Canada on student visa and he is 20 years old.my parents have visitors visa.

I was wondering if it is possible to sponsor only my parents and not my brother as I am single and I don’t meet the income requirements for 4 people however I have enough income for three people ??
And if I cannot apply now, would I be able to sponsor along with my brother once he gets his PR? That way our income would be enough because I’m only short 5k.

Please help.
Thanks

The short answer is no. Because of your brother's age, he is classified as a dependent and must be included in the LICO calculation.

Along with Scylla's response, only one son/daughter can sponsor the parents along with his/her spouse as co-signer if applicable. Two PR/Canadian siblings cannot sponsor their parents. Since you cannot meet the LICO with your brother included, you have to wait until your brother turns 22. Once he turns 22, you can then sponsor your parents. Your brother would be excluded from PGP sponsorship. The catch is that your brother would have to qualify for PR on his own merits.

Thank you. I guess I just have to wait then.
