Can I leave Canada while waiting for the visitor visa?

Hi my work permit is ending soon and I filed for a visitor visa to be able to stay in the country a little longer. The only reason for me is that I have a long term rental and apparently I can't just leave but have to transfer it to someone else. pain...

So my plan is to stick around a bit more to transfer it and then leave. If my visitor visa is not ready by then can I still leave Canada without penalty?
