Can I leave Canada during PR application in process?

Hi,

I have a close work permit valid till Apr. 2015 and my wife has open work permit valid until 2016.
I am eligible to apply under FSW and will send my application soon.
My question is: Can we travel outside Canada around 1 month (My boss let me take vacation) after I send out my PR application?
I am the main applicant, does my wife and kids need to be here in Canada during the application in process?
I have friend here in Canada to check my mail box.

So is it means my family is in Canada or not doesn't affect my application?
Even before I send it out and they already leave Canada?
Where can I find those info on CIC website?
