Hello Easyrider and Everybody,

Yesterday I came across this forum through google search. I felt some hope of getting a proper answer after reading the postings.

I have sent my application for citizenship last month. I live in North York, Ontario. I am in 2nd year of University in Toronto. I am planning to drop out and do my bachelors degree Abroad.

I have my Uncle living in Toronto who can communicate in my absence.

Question: Can I leave Canada and just come for written test and Oath ceremony or do I have to stay in Canada till I acquire my citizenship.

Will studying abroad create complications, trigger an RQ etc.?

Please advise me ASAP.

Thanks in advance

Well, check these threads, it's already been discussed.

In short, yes, you can leave, but should be prepared and willing to take risks associated with possible delays and consequences, e.g. increased scrutiny/RQ.

1. Weigh up the risk of delays if your absence becomes cause for CIC to dig up on our file or they decide to issue you an RQ.

2. Factor in the difficulties facing job applicants with 'non Canadian degrees'.

If you are served by a 'fast' Local Office e.g Windsor stay put you could be done your oath in 6-7 months!

You can definitely leave Canada after applying. As long as you maintain your PR status by living here 2 years of out five years I see no problem.
CIC can give you an RQ and that can hold up the process. However if you can prove that you live 2 years out of five here you should be fine.
