Hello everyone,

I’m an IT worker who’s been living in Canada for four years. I’m looking for some advice regarding my Express Entry profile and foreign work experience. I currently work for a US company on a contract basis. From a Canadian perspective, this would be considered self-employed work since I’m paid the full amount and handle my taxes.

My question is: Can I include the time I’ve worked for this US company as foreign work experience in my Canadian Express Entry profile? I already have one year of work experience in Canada, and my current Express Entry points are 470. I’m 25 years old. Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

You can include it as a foreign work experience.

It's not counted as CEC.

As a self employed, you need to collect more proofs, not only references.

Hi thank you, may I know what documents that I can use to present the evidence? I get my salary in the Canadian account in full amount. I won't be having T4.

You need to proof the hours of work and how you were paid for those. No T4 could be a problem.

I work full time which is probably 37.5 hours per week. It's mentioned in my contract along with job responsibilities. I get paid a flat amount in USD. I just wanna explore the opportunity of collecting points for the work that I have been doing with them. With that, I can probably push to 508 next year.

You should be good then, just have your contract, references and paystubs ready for the period that you claim points for.
