Yes - you can ask your employer to get an approved LMIA. No - this will not mean your PGWP is canceled / expired.

If your employer can’t find a Canadian or PR to do the job, wants to pay for the application, and complete all the paperwork including a market assessment on how hiring you, then go for it.
