Can i go back to my home country and wait to receive my Canadian PR?

My work permit expires at the end of April 2016. I however plan on leaving Canada for a couple of months at the end of March. I was invited to apply for my PR back in December 2015 and sent my application then. Will it make a difference if I decide to go back home and wait for it instead of me staying back in Canada and then go back once the decision has been made?

I got my Canadian Criminal check just in case if they ask me for it after i've left the country. Any advise would be appreciated.

No harm doing this.

Except that you'll need an RCMP document afresh if they ask you for one later in the process as the current report won't be valid after you leave Canada because you're still living in Canada after having got this one.
