Hi everyone,

I have a situation here:
I am a post graduate work permit holder and come from a non-visa exempt country. I just got the final request to mail my passport on my PR application last week. I heard that if I go to the boarder to land then I'll get my PR card in 2 months. We need to have PR card in hand if we want to enter Canada as a permanent resident. Otherwise we will need to apply a travel document outside Canada and that takes about 1 month.

The situation is that I have booked two travels lately, one on early December and the other one on early February. I know that if I land on December I won't guarantee that I'll get the PR card mailed to my before I leave Canada on February. My stay in outside Canada are both no longer than 2 weeks so it won't work to apply a travel document outside Canada. So I'm thinking if I can choose not to land with my landing visa when I return on December and enter Canada using my current work permit visa? I will landing on February when I finish my second travel.

Can anybody let me know if that will work or not? Thank you.

Michelle

I'm have the exact same issue with the same travel times. I'm not sure if you can choose to not land. I don't see why it would be mandatory to land. I didn't get my PPR yet. I applied on June 14th and still waiting. When did you apply if you don't mind me asking? Also, do you know how long they take to return the passport after it's sent?

I was curious about this too and the consensus seemed to be that you could simply pass through the border without declaring you wished to land and your status would therefore not be updated to that of a PR.

Hi haven't received my passport back yet. I mailed it last Friday. I Think it will take 2 weeks to get them back.
